Vermont fish farmers get into a tropical cycle
Vermont farmers are turning to a new crop -- the tilapia, a tropical fish prized for its mild, flaky white meat. The fish thrives in hot weather and produces ammonia that is converted by a biofilter into nitrates that feed the hydroponically grown vegetables, creating parts of a whole new, self-contained Vermont eco-system.
