Freedom Fries?
The fact that two Republican Congressmen have wasted taxpayer dollars officially changing the name of French fries and French toast in the House cafeteria to freedom fries and freedom toast has finally knocked the scales from my eyes regarding the whole anti-French thing going on right now. At first I thought it was amusing, but the more seriously people take it, the more malevolent it seems. Our government is currently at a serious impasse with the French government. What does this have to do with French fries? (Especially considering they aren't actually from France!) Isn't this broad brush tarring of an entire culture the exact same thing that we wish Europe WAS NOT doing to us? I'm motivated to pick up my old textbook and start learning French again and cooking with lots of butter and shallots, just to thumb my nose at this silliness.
