Back in Old Cape May; David's First Trip to the Beach
We got back from Cape May late Monday afternoon, well-fed, well-rested and happy. We were treated better than royalty, we were treated like friends on our return to that little island off the far southern tip of New Jersey, Garden State Parkway Exit 0, Cape May. It began with signboard at Cape Liquors, just before you go over the bridge and onto the island. Joe had gotten the owner to put up: "Welcome Ernie, Kristin and Screamer." Joe calls all babies "screamers." From there on out, everyone opened their homes, hearts and refrigerators (and in some cases their restaurants and hotels!) to us and we had perhaps the best vacation ever -- despite the fact it was not an exotic destination, despite the fact that it was cold and rained half the time, and despite the fact that the changing environments made David so deliriously happy he NEVER wanted to sleep. Writing of David, he did great in the car. An eight hour drive was no problem for that little trooper, though he did get fussy a few times, and it is exhausting to put on a high-energy show for him for more than a half an hour while taking a turn in the back seat. Once at a destination (any destination), he turned on the power-charm and grinned, giggled at and flirted with everyone he met. On the last day, we went up to North Jersey for Alyssa and Sandeep's traditional Indian wedding (Oh, man was the food good! And open bar besides!). Kristen and I both got to participate in the ceremony, but David stole the show by making friends with everybody in the rows in front and behind us.
