Bluefish, bluefish, bluefish!
Boston Globe writer Joe Vieria writes: "The bluefish are practically jumping into the boats in many locations. Most of the remarkably heavy action has been in Areas A, B, and C, but the presence of the blues has definitely been felt on Cape Cod." Oh, if only I had a little more time!

SUV owners running down more kids than ever
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, police and child-safety advocates say there has been an increase in such
fatalities involving large vehicles, such as trucks, vans and SUVs. Sure, the article's a little slanted, but it doesn't change the fact that SUVs are annoying.

Finally, the truth is out! Fishing IS more interesting than baseball! And besides, you don't have to shell out a weeks pay to support a bunch of multimillionaires whining about salary caps.

Terrorists or fishermen?
In Bejar, Spain, police arrested three men who had stolen 6.4 kilos of gelatin dynamite. Police were worried because that explosive is often used by the Basque separatist group ETA. The men, however, claimed they intended to use some of the dynamite for fishing and sell the rest to other anglers.

Make it an early morning
Concord Monitor angling writer John Corrigan wets his line in Sewalls Falls in Concord, but not early enough in the morning to beat the heat. A nice column -- really gives a good sense of place to this familiar fishing spot.

Bad news for the oceans
According to the New York Times, "The Bush administration is arguing that a major environmental law does not apply to the vast majority of oceans under United States control, a move that environmentalists say could allow military maneuvers, oil and gas pipelines, commercial fishing, ocean dumping and scores of other activities to escape public environmental review."

Swarms of Dying Mayflies Bring Good News
Clean rivers mean more and bigger hatches than people have seen in half a century, so much so that some southern towns, "the insects have been swarming in such volumes this summer that they have to be shoveled from riverside streets and scraped from bridges with snowplows."

Hold Your Breath and a Spear Gun
Well, it's not fly fishing, but this sounds like a pretty darn exciting way to catch striped bass nevertheless!

Vermont fish farmers get into a tropical cycle
Vermont farmers are turning to a new crop -- the tilapia, a tropical fish prized for its mild, flaky white meat. The fish thrives in hot weather and produces ammonia that is converted by a biofilter into nitrates that feed the hydroponically grown vegetables, creating parts of a whole new, self-contained Vermont eco-system.

And speaking of the Rapture…
Here's an interesting perspective on the theology of "Left Behind" series and a different, to my mind more rational, textually based interpretation of The Book of Revelation. Still puzzled?
